The ozone found in the stratosphere contains around 90% of the total ozone in the Earth's atmosphere. The primary use of the ozone layer is to protect the planet from harmful UV rays which are emitted by the sun. The stratospheric ozone layer is found around 6-30 miles above the Earth's surface.
