The French establishes colonies in the United States for economic and political reasons.
France, like much of Europe, was running out of room. Disease and overcrowding were rampant. They also were running out of natural resources.
By opening up colonies, France was able to get new revenue streams and land that enabled them to better fight England, their mortal enemy.
