The German Empire built a railroad in the Islamic region to connect Berlin with the city of Baghdad in order to access the port of Basra in the Persian Gulf and avoid the Suez Canal. The construction began in 1904 but ended in 1940 due to the First World War and the geographical factors that made it difficult to complete it.
