The term given to the movement of African Americans from the south in the first half of the 1900s is called the “great migration” in which numerous African Americans moved from southern states to northern states were the need for workers in factories and industries were required, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit and the west were some of the most attractive destinations for African Americans who wanted to get away from segregation polices and violence in southern states.
