Eliminate y  

multiply (1)by -1  

Multiply (2) by 2  

-a+2b=-2

2a-2b=12

Add the two equations  

a = 10

plug value of a in (1)  

1a +-2b=2

10+-2b=2

-2b =2

-2b =-8

b=4.00
