The Dar al Islam arrived to the dark ages in a very strong position in contrast to western europe, having conquered many Egyptian provinces and the all of the Sassanian empire. After that, the Umayyad Dynasty actually managed to expand the Arab empire towards the west, occupying Spain and moving their capital to Damascus which brought them closer to bellicose regions.
