if you want to get a reader's attention you would might like to use a sentence that has purpose or something that can suprise the reader and interest them to read deeper, like:the ice melts quickly on the river over the warm dry sun...
if you want to get a readers attention you have to surprise them or have lots of action packed parts in the story. maybe start out an action packed narrative lead to your story or something.
