so once you distribute it will be
12x+16-7x=10x-20+6
then you add 12x+(-7x)=5x
and on the other side you add -20+6=-14
so then you get
5x+16=10x-14
then you subtract 10x from 5x which gives you -5x
then you get -5x+16=-14
then you subtract 16 from 16 and -14 from -16
then you get 2
now you have -2/5
