Many of the officers of the South were decorated veterans of
past wars. They were also daring men and
brave men who were willing to go head first into battle to defeat their
enemies. Their soldiers were men who
were accustomed to outdoor life and were also experienced in conflicts. They were
dedicated to defending their states and their commitment was deep.
