Similarity--both men and women were expected to be 'proper' citizens and to contribute the new American culture.

Difference--men were expected to work and contribute to the economic well-being for their family. Men who could vote were expected to do so. Women were expected to stay at home and support their husbands while raising children. Women were asked to educate their children in the citizenship and culture of America.
