Subsituting " W + 8 " for L in Eqn. (i) :-
(W + 8) W = 128
W² + 8W = 128
W² + 8W - 128 = 0
W² + 14W - 6W - 128 = 0
W (W + 14) - 6 (W + 14) = 0
(W + 14) ( W - 6) = 0
∴ Width = - 14 Or 6
[ width can't be - ve ]
Obviously, only the positive number makes sense.
∴ Width, W = 6 feet.
∴ Length, L = W + 8 = 6 + 8 = 14 feet.
