It resulted in a change of a few business practices. The four major companies had to agree to give money to help states to some degree in treating patients with smoking related illnesses, as well as change their advertising practices in such a manner that it almost became forbidden to advertise smoking in many ways. They also had to fund an anti-smoking advocacy group which presented the dangers of smoking.
