It is applied to medicine and it is a branch of medical science concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of infectious diseases. The field studies various medical applications of microbes for the improvement of health. A medical microbiologist studies the characteristics of pathogens, their transmission, infection characteristics and growth.
