In The Metamorphosis, we learn that Gregor has turned into a giant bug. However, we also learn that the transformation has not been total. Gregor has the body of a bug, and some of its physical and mental characteristics (taste, smell, etc.). However, at the same time, Gregor still has the mind of a human, which puts his mind in direct conflict with the state of his body.
