Rollback
Containment meant keeping the Soviet Union in check and preventing its influence from spreading further. "Rollback" meant trying to replace a regime that leaned toward communism where possible. An example of this occurred in 1954 in Guatemala, where the CIA sponsored the overthrow of recently elected president who was implementing what the USA saw as socialist policies.
