The equation is x - y = 8

Rewrite it into the format y = mx + b
⇒ x - y = 8
⇒ y = x - 8

Compare y = x - 8 with y = mx + b
⇒ m = 1, therefore slope = 1

Slope of the perpendicular line = -1 (negative reciprocal )

Answer: -1
