Alfred Doolittle, Eliza's father, is an elderly man who isn't afraid to speak his mind. He will always say what he thinks, regardless of whether it is rude or not. Shaw used this character to portray his social criticism, so that is why he is so outspoken. However, he is also quite greedy and alcoholic - he was ready to sell his own daughter for some money.
